Rodarte for Target is finally approaching us and NY MAG has kindly graced us with images and prices from the lookbook!
I have to say I am pleasantly surprised with a majority of the line. I am especially fond of the delicate lace pieces versus the animal print dress and bow belt. The two hosiery pieces are on point for this seasons short printed dresses – lace tights for $12.99 and cut-out knee-highs for $9.99. And who could deny the Mulleavy’s signature tulle overlapping the skirts and dresses?! I know what I want for Christmas.

The above outfits felt like last minute quickies that were thrown in to appease Avril Lavigne’s four remaining fans. Dorothy’s baby blue swiss dot dress? Sarah Jessica Parker’s leftover Sex in the City Jean Jacket with tulle scarf? Hot Topic sale rack sequin ribcage dress? Mustard anything? Mulleavy’s make me sad. Luckily the good overshadows the bad, so these few pieces can be forgiven.
Can’t wait until the December 20th in-store and online release date? There will be a Target Pop Up Shop featuring five pieces from the Rodarte line on December 11th. Find out more at NY MAG.
So, at my old age, I seem to have somewhat cut down on excessive and unnecessary spending. I remember days of racking up $150 every time I went to H&M or Forever21. Most of those items ended up either a) sitting in the closet with the tags on them until I sold it for $2 at wasteland or b) worn once and ripped in a dance-off at my friend’s bar. Very rarely did I end up finding an item that I would wear on repeat no matter what was currently trendy on the city streets. Now, if I do end up going to those places, I am EXTREMELY careful not to overspend or buy items that seem like a good idea, but are not. This goes for luxury items as well. The rule is: just because it’s on sale and designer, doesn’t make it good.
Anyway, I feel like I’ve started to write a few more blogs than I wanted to about how to find the “look for less”. I don’t typically buy things that are blatant ripoffs, and I most definitely never believed in rolling down to Coco Canal Street and rocking a fake Chanel. No matter what, runway turns into fast fashion and you’re going to find it – some good, some bad. My point being, I try to showcase the items that are a) wearable and b) hopefully not too cheap looking. I hope you enjoy it, because for some reason I seem to like writing these way too much.
Today I found myself roaming through the products at LuLu’s Fashion Lounge and there was some sick pieces at 50-75% off Pixie Market prices for the same look. Here’s what I purchased:
Swing Time Dress, $46
Interesting shoulders, Givenchy-esque military button placket, and pockets!
Bye, Bye Baby Dress, $25
Again, great shoulders, nice pleating. I need to figure out how to get rid of the tie-bow in the back though. Could be slightly cheesy.
Galileo Tunic, $27
More strong shoulders! Easy to layer.
I’ve never ordered from LuLu’s before, so I’m a bit nervous about the quality. Sometimes you receive products in the mail and they are just terrible! I’m hoping for the best.
Oh, and here are a few “save a buck” items for you at LuLu’s:
left, chloe s/s 09 suede multi strap wedges, $945
right, jeffrey campbell @ lulu’s, $127
left, alexander wang pre-fall 09 fitted corset dress, $795
right, lulu’s heat conducter dress, $45
